I mentioned to some of you lately that I was thinking about starting a blog... and since I am stuck in Shreveport waiting for my car to be fixed, in a house with three sleeping people on mid shift, with no car to go anywhere... no time like the present, right? :)
The car was supposed to be done at noon, but the VW dealer called at 12:40 to say that it would be another hour or two. Thank goodness TMO recommended an extra day between shipping the car and flying out, because I won't make the Dallas VPC today. Everything should still go fine, I'll drive to Dallas tonight, stay in a hotel near the VPC, and take the car over first thing in the morning. Then taxi to DFW and ...drumroll... more waiting. My flight is at 7:40pm, so I'll find a power outlet and play on the computer or dive into the third Twilight book, which I have carefully saved for this trip.
Maybe I should back up a little bit, since there might be some reading this who I haven't talked to in a while... I am moving to England tomorrow, probably the most blog-worthy thing to ever happen to me, hence the beginning of the blog and the title "Heidi's Big Adventure". This move is courtesy of the US Air Force, as I will be stationed at RAF Lakenheath for two years providing weather support to three squadrons of F-15s. Lakenheath is about 80 miles NE of London, 20 miles NE of Cambridge, in a fairly rural area. This will be my first time out of the US other than the Bahamas and Canada, so you can see why this is such an exciting opportunity. I have always wanted to travel to Europe and see all the sights, and I'm still not sure I believe it is actually happening.
This move brings to a close two and a half years in Shreveport, Louisiana, at the 26th Operational Weather Squadron. A bittersweet end, as I will not miss the location (too hot, too humid, too far from mountains and snow), but I will miss the people of the 26th like crazy. I'll need a mole in the squadron to keep me updated on everyone. Love those guys and gals...
I guess I better not bore you with rambling on my first post, though I'm not really expecting many readers (at least my mom will read it... hi Mom :) ) Hoping the car will be done soon!
I've just added this blog to my ever-growing list of homepages. I'll be able to keep up with you on a daily basis. Please take especially good care of yourself and don't forget your way back to Caryville, it's just not the same without you.
ReplyDeleteYou went to the Bahamas? Did I know that? :D
